Septarian or dragon egg stone is a gorgeous stone. The word septarian comes from the latin word septum, meaning partition, and refers to the partitions visible on the stone’s surface. Septarian stones are known as concretions. Concretion is another Latin derived word that means to accumulate or bring together as in agglutination. They are formed by the precipitation of mineral cement within the spaces between particles.
When we see a septarian stone for the first time we can’t help but wonder if it is from this world; right away, we realize that we are looking at a very special stone, a prehistoric one. It seems to come from a different realm, perhaps a different planet or dimension. This is the first thing one perceives when one sees this stone for the first time. In fact it is a very ancient stone. Our dragon eggs formed in the cretaceous period, some 70 million years ago, in Madagascar, as a result of sediment accumulation and the organic matter of dead marine life and other living organisms. They have a very organic appearance in their shape and color. They have an oval shape like that of an egg and very earthy colors such as brown, beige and gray, which exemplify their mineral composition. The yellow parts of a septarian stone is calcite, while the brown dividing lines or arteries, as well as the brown druzy parts inside of the stone is aragonite. The gray parts of the stone are composed of limestone.
Septarian stones have a wonderful nurturing energy that is grounding and protective. Because of its old history and its varied composition, this stone’s energy encompasses a lot of different aspects of life and existence on earth. It helps you grow spiritually and gives you the confidence to pursue new paths in life without fear of getting loss in your exploration of new possibilities and unknown destinations. It gives you the courage to explore new ways of doing things and the confidence that whatever you do, and whatever the destination you reach at the end of your new journey, you will be better off than when you started.
